As a Registered Farrier, you can conduct work that is in connection with the preparation or treatment of the foot of the horse for the immediate reception of a shoe. You will make shoes to suit all types of work and fit shoes for regular or remedial shoeing. As a highly skilled craftsperson a farrier will file and trim feet, create and shape shoes, fit shoes and provide corrective shoeing following lameness, disease or injury.
Qualified farriers have flexibility in working for themselves or moving into an employed role with larger establishments such as mounted regiments of the police or army, in equine veterinary hospitals or with large yards.
